Did you know?
‘Welding helmets with integrated powered air purifying respirators (PAPR) are the most widely used form of respiratory protection amongst welders in Australia and New Zealand’ and are mandatory within many businesses.
They have a Required Minimum Protection Factor (RMPF) of 50, meaning that they supply breathing air a minimum 50 times cleaner than the welder would otherwise be breathing unprotected and can also protect the welders’ eyes and face from radiation and high velocity particles.

More than a helmet.
QWS has been the sole agent for the Speedglas brand in Australia and New Zealand for over 20 years and continues to support welders in the field. QWS still stocks and sells consumable spare parts for the Speedglas 9000 series which was released in 1996 (over 20 years ago). This is a testament to the quality and longevity of Speedglas products and also the support that you receive when you own a Speedglas helmet.
Welding fume: understand the risks and how to protect yourself.
In March 2017, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) reclassified welding fume as ‘carcinogenic to humans’. ‘Welders present, on average, a 43% increased risk of lung cancer when compared with those who have never welded or been exposed to welding fume’1. An unprotected welder operating within the Australian and New Zealand exposure standards for general welding fume (5 mg/m3) could inhale up to 11 grams of a known carcinogen per year. Speedglas welding helmets with the Adflo powered air purifying respirator (PAPR) can provide air over 50 times cleaner than the air inhaled by an unprotected welder. When compared to disposable and reusable half facemask respiratory protection, PAPRs provide superior respiratory protection and do not require fit-testing.
Cleaner and more comfortable welding
With its slim profile, the award winning 3M™ Adflo™ respirator offers excellent lightweight, adaptable and mobile respiratory protection. Constant, clean air flows directly into your breathing zone and with the right type of filter, the Adflo respirator effectively protects against a range of gases, vapours, and particles. As one of the most popular PAPR systems in the world, Speedglas Welding Helmets with the Adflo Powered Air Purifying Respirator have become synonymous with welders’ respiratory protection.

Is plasma cutting better than laser cutting? The answer isn’t quite as simple as you might think, but we’re here to walk you through it. As with any craft, there are pros and cons to each technique, and it depends on what type of project you’re working on to determine which is best. Let’s explore this further and discuss why one may be better suited for your job than the other.
Ah, the age-old question: What is better, MIG or TIG welding? Before you choose a side, let's learn more about each. Both processes are necessary in fabrication and welding. However, they each come with their own pros and cons
In the realm of industrial fastening, precision, speed, and reliability are the keys to success. Among the various methods available, stud welding stands out as a versatile and efficient technique that meets these criteria with flying colors.
Laser welding is a cutting-edge technology that has revolutionized the welding industry, offering precision and efficiency that traditional welding methods often cannot match. However, with the many benefits of laser welding come unique safety challenges and potential exposure risks.
