PFERD CC-GRIND FLEX 125mm Coarse Grinding Disc – SGP STEEL
The PFERD CC-GRIND FLEX 125mm Coarse SGP STEEL is a semi-flexible grinding disc for angle grinders, made for blending and smoothing weld seams on steel. It uses PFERD’s precision-shaped VICTOGRAIN-COOL abrasive grain to remove material fast while keeping heat out of the workpiece. Compared with a conventional grinding wheel, PFERD rates it at half the noise and vibration and 80% less dust, with a better surface finish and longer tool life.
Built for weld seams that need to disappear
Butt welds that look fine bare often show every bump and dip once they’re painted or powder coated. The CC-GRIND FLEX is the semi-flexible version of PFERD’s rigid CC-GRIND SOLID. It was designed to follow the weld profile and blend butt welds completely flat, so you don’t create the gouges and high spots a hard wheel can leave behind. That means less rework before coating and a cleaner finished job.
How VICTOGRAIN works
Most abrasives use irregular, crushed grain. VICTOGRAIN is different: every grain is a uniform triangle, anchored on one side and standing at the ideal cutting angle. Each point needs very little force to bite into the steel. In practice this means:
- Faster stock removal with less pressure from the operator
- Cooler grinding with less heat transferred into the workpiece and less discolouration
- Lower load on the grinder so the drive needs less power
- Consistent performance across the disc’s life, because the micro-crystalline grain structure keeps exposing fresh sharp edges as it wears
Although it is a single layer of grain, PFERD rates the tool life as longer than grinding wheels and many flap discs.
A safer, more comfortable tool for the operator
On jobs with long grinding runs, operator exposure matters. Under Australian WHS obligations, employers must manage noise, hand-arm vibration and airborne dust in the workshop. A disc that cuts noise and vibration by around 50% and produces 80% less dust than a grinding wheel (PFERD figures) helps reduce exposure at the source. It does not replace hearing protection, eye protection, RPE or dust extraction. The layered glass-fibre backing gives the same durability and safety as a grinding wheel, and the disc carries oSa (Organisation for the Safety of Abrasives) certification.

Frequently asked questions
What is the PFERD CC-GRIND FLEX used for?
It is for grinding and blending weld seams on steel with an angle grinder, especially butt welds that need to be fully flat before painting or coating. It also handles general surface grinding and step-by-step fine grinding.
What’s the difference between CC-GRIND FLEX and CC-GRIND SOLID?
The SOLID is rigid. The FLEX is semi-flexible, so it follows the shape of the weld and blends it smoothly without digging in. That makes it the better choice when the finish has to be invisible under paint.
Do I need a special flange for the CC-GRIND FLEX?
Yes. PFERD recommends the SFS CC-GRIND clamping flange set (115/125 size, M14 or 5/8" thread to suit your grinder). It isn’t included with the discs and must be ordered separately.
Can I use the CC-GRIND FLEX on the edge of the disc?
No. It is a face-grinding disc only. For edge work or cutting, use a cut-off wheel or a grinding wheel rated for peripheral use.
Is the CC-GRIND FLEX better than a flap disc?
For weld blending on steel, PFERD rates its tool life as longer than many flap discs. It also removes stock quickly, runs cool and produces less dust. Flap discs still have a place for contour work and finishing on other materials.
Can I use it on stainless steel or aluminium?
This SGP STEEL version is specified for steel. Ask the QWS team about the right PFERD option for stainless steel or non-ferrous metals.
What angle grinder speed do I need?
Any 125mm angle grinder rated at or below the disc’s 12,200 RPM maximum. Never run the disc above its rated speed.
