Stoody 850-O Hardfacing MIG Wire – 1.2mm (Self-Shielded)
Premium open-arc hardfacing wire for extreme abrasion resistance
Stoody 850-O is a self-shielded (open arc) hard surfacing wire that deposits a high carbon martensitic steel for excellent resistance to severe, fine (wet or dry) abrasion and low impact loading. This 1.2mm tubular wire is engineered for tough rebuilding and surfacing applications where long-term wear protection is essential — without the need for shielding gas.
Key Features
- Self-shielded (-O), tubular hardfacing wire construction — no gas required, ideal for outdoor and field repairs
- Air-hardening, high carbon martensitic steel deposit that resists severe abrasive wear
- Weld deposits are air hardening and prone to fine relief checking — a normal characteristic of high-hardness hardfacing alloys that helps relieve stress
- 1.2mm size can be used for vertical surfacing by depositing overlapping horizontal stringer passes, giving welders flexibility across positional work
- Compatible with Transmig 250 and 275 power plants for all positional surfacing applications
- Manufactured to the AS/NZS 2576: 1865-B7 standard
Recommended Applications
Typical applications include the hard surfacing of agricultural, mining and materials handling equipment including tynes, points, conveyor screws, dredge buckets, cane harvester cutters/elevators and sugar mill scraper plates.
Important Usage Note
Stoody 850-O should not be used in applications involving heavy impact or shock loading — it's purpose-built for fine, high-volume abrasive wear rather than gouging or high-impact conditions. For impact-heavy environments, a different Stoody alloy (e.g. a more impact-tolerant hardfacing wire) would be a better fit.
