MIG Wire Corodur Hard Facing 79-OA 1.6mm

Product Overview

The Corodur 79-OA Hard Facing MIG Wire (1.6mm) is a premium flux-cored, open-arc (self-shielded, gasless) hardfacing wire engineered for extreme abrasion resistance. Manufactured in Germany by Corodur Fülldraht GmbH, this C-Cr-Nb-B alloyed wire is reinforced with added refractory carbides, delivering an exceptionally high scratch hardness deposit ideal for components exposed to severe mineral wear combined with light impact stress.

Key Features

  • Alloy composition: Carbon-Chromium-Vanadium-Niobium-Boron (C-Cr-V-Nb-B) with refractory carbide additions
  • Wire diameter: 1.6mm
  • Process type: Open-arc (OA) flux-cored — no shielding gas required, ideal for outdoor and field welding
  • Deposit hardness: Very high scratch hardness; up to 67 HRc achievable in the first layer
  • Heat resistance: Maintains hardness with no significant degradation up to 650°C
  • Recommended deposit: 2–3 layers, maximum 10mm thickness
  • Preheat requirement: 450°C, with slow, preferably furnace-controlled cooling

Typical Applications

This hardfacing wire is purpose-built for heavy wear environments across mining, agriculture, and industrial processing, including:

  • Sinter plants and cement clinker processing
  • Lignite mining machinery and bucket wheel excavators
  • Dragline buckets, dredge components, and sand dredging equipment
  • Chains, tooth adapters, and ground-engaging tools
  • Agricultural tines and bucket sides
  • Cement pumps and slurry chutes
  • Gravel and quarrying equipment

Why Choose Corodur 79-OA

For operators needing maximum protection against extreme mineral abrasion where impact loading is minor, Corodur 79-OA offers a reliable, high-performance rebuilding and hardfacing solution. Its self-shielded design simplifies application in remote or field conditions, while its high-temperature hardness retention makes it especially suited to sinter and cement industries where operating temperatures are elevated.
