Kemppi X3 FastMig — Industrial MIG/MAG Welding System (Water-Cooled, Custom Configuration)

The Kemppi X3 FastMig water-cooled system delivers 420 A (X3S) or 450 A (X3P) at 60% duty cycle with an integrated cooler for sustained high-output production welding. Water-cooled packages built to your specs — synergic or pulse, HD200 or HD300 feeder, choice of interconnection cable length. Request a quote from QWS — authorised Kemppi distributor.

What Is the Kemppi X3 FastMig Water-Cooled Package?

The Kemppi X3 FastMig Water-Cooled Package is the high-duty-cycle, sustained-output configuration of the X3 FastMig industrial MIG/MAG welding system. It delivers 420 A (X3S Synergic) or 450 A (X3P Pulse) at a 60% duty cycle — with a water-cooled torch setup that extends effective working capacity, reduces torch operating temperatures, and significantly extends consumable life compared to equivalent gas-cooled configurations.

The defining difference from a gas-cooled X3 FastMig is the power source itself. Water-cooled X3 FastMig models (W designation) feature an integrated water cooling unit built directly into the power source — there is no separate external cooler required. The cooling system is self-contained, making the water-cooled package a single, integrated system rather than a multi-piece setup.

The X3 FastMig water-cooled system is a modular package — the power source (with integrated cooler), wire feeder, water-cooled torch, and interconnection cable are selected to match your specific application, materials, and production environment. QWS will work with you to configure the right combination and build a complete package quotation.

Designed and manufactured in Finland. Compliant with IEC 60974-1 and -10. 3-year warranty.

Why Choose Water-Cooled?

Water cooling is the preferred configuration for sustained, high-output production welding where the torch is under continuous or near-continuous arc load. Key advantages over gas-cooled configuration:

Extended Effective Duty Cycle Water cooling actively removes heat from the torch body and cable throughout the welding process — allowing welders to operate at higher current levels for longer periods without the thermal interruptions that occur with air-cooled torches at sustained high output. This directly increases productive arc-on time per shift.

Longer Torch Consumable Life Cooler operating temperatures extend the service life of contact tips, nozzles, and liner components — reducing consumable costs and changeover time in high-volume production environments.

Operator Comfort on Long Runs A cooler torch handle means more comfortable sustained welding on long production runs — reducing operator fatigue and improving positional control, particularly on overhead and vertical welding where grip and comfort directly affect weld quality.

Higher Practical Output on Sustained Welds At 420–450 A sustained welding loads — typical in structural steel, shipbuilding, pressure vessel, and high-deposition production environments — water cooling maintains consistent torch performance where a gas-cooled torch would require rest periods to dissipate heat.

Reduced Cable Heating Water-cooled interconnection cables run cooler than gas-cooled equivalents at equivalent current levels, reducing cable resistance change over long welding periods and maintaining consistent arc voltage delivery.

The X3 FastMig Water-Cooled System — How It Works

A complete X3 FastMig water-cooled package consists of three components:

1. Power Source — Choose X3S (Synergic) or X3P (Pulse), with Integrated Cooler

Key point: Water-cooled X3 FastMig power sources (W models) include the cooling unit integrated inside the power source. This is different to some competitor systems where a separate external cooler is required. The X3 W power source is a self-contained unit — plug in, connect the water-cooled torch hose pack, and you're ready.

X3S — Synergic Power Source (W models)

  • Supports Manual MIG/MAG, 1-MIG (synergic), MMA, and carbon arc gouging
  • Does not include Pulse MIG
  • Best suited for structural steel, heavy fabrication, and cored wire production welding where pulse is not required
  • Available as X3S 420 W (single voltage, 380–415 V) and X3S 400 WM (multi-voltage, 380–460 V + 220–230 V)
  • Weight: ~47 kg (integrated cooler)

X3P — Pulse Power Source (W models)

  • Supports Manual MIG/MAG, 1-MIG (synergic), Pulse MIG/MAG, MMA, and carbon arc gouging

Key Features of the X3 FastMig Water-Cooled System

Integrated Water Cooler — No Separate Unit Required

Unlike some competing water-cooled MIG systems that require a separate external cooler unit, the X3 FastMig W models integrate the cooling system directly inside the power source enclosure. This results in a cleaner, more compact footprint on the workshop floor or transport trolley — one unit, one power connection, one system.

Factory-Installed Welding Programs — Ready From Day One

Every X3 FastMig power source arrives with factory-installed welding programs covering the most common industrial filler materials. The X3S includes 45 synergic programs; the X3P includes 71 programs across both synergic and pulse MIG processes. Materials covered include:

  • Fe — mild steel solid wire, 0.8–1.6 mm
  • Ss — stainless steel solid wire, 0.8–1.6 mm
  • AlSi5 / AlMg5 — aluminium alloy wire, 0.8–1.6 mm
  • CuSi3 — silicon bronze wire, 0.8–1.2 mm
  • Fe Metal — metal-cored wire, 0.9–2.0 mm
  • Fe Rutil — rutile flux-cored wire, 0.9–1.6 mm
  • FC-CrNiMo — flux-cored CrNiMo wire, 1.2–1.6 mm

No additional program purchases required — all programs are immediately usable from commissioning.

DuraTorque 4x4 Wire Drive

Both X3 HD200 and HD300 feeders feature the DuraTorque 4x4 four-roll wire drive — delivering consistent, reliable wire feeding at all output levels, wire types, and cable lengths. In water-cooled configurations running sustained high-output production welding, consistent wire delivery is directly linked to arc stability and weld quality.

Non-Language Icon-Based User Interface

The X3 FastMig's icon-based control panel on the wire feeder provides immediate, intuitive process, program, and parameter selection in AUTO (synergic) or MANUAL mode — without language-specific menus. Any operator can set up and begin welding quickly regardless of skill level or background.

Dual-Wall Wire Feeder Cabinet

The HD300 wire feeder features dual-wall construction in impact-resistant plastic — engineered to absorb the knocks, vibrations, and drops of heavy industrial fabrication environments without compromising wire feeding performance or control panel function.

Safe Crane Lift — Shipyard and Elevated Work

The HD300 wire feeder is rated for safe crane lifting from its handle with the full weight of the feeder, water-cooled torch hose pack, cables, and wire spool supported. Water hose connections are located outside the casing for fast, tool-free torch package changes at height or during service.

Generator Compatible — Full Output on Site

All X3 FastMig W and WM power sources carry the G/M generator-compatible rating, with a recommended minimum generator output of 25 kVA — enabling the same water-cooled production capability in fixed workshop and remote site environments.

Marathon Pack Capable

When configured with the X3 HD300 feeder, the water-cooled X3 FastMig package supports marathon pack (bulk drum) wire configurations — enabling uninterrupted high-volume production welding without spool changeover downtime.

AutoCool — Dynamic Cooling Management

The integrated cooler features AutoCool — dynamic modulation of cooling fan speeds and cooler motor run times based on actual welding load. This reduces electrical energy consumption and operating noise during lower-output intervals, while maintaining full cooling capacity during sustained high-current production runs.

Cable Calibration Without Sensing Cable

Built-in welding cable calibration measures circuit resistance and maintains accurate arc voltage display regardless of interconnection cable length — important in water-cooled configurations where 5 m or 10 m interconnection cables are standard.

Optional Remote Controls

The HR53 wireless hand remote (with display) and GRe50 on-torch remote are available as optional accessories — allowing current and program adjustment from the torch position without returning to the wire feeder during sustained production welding.

Frequently Asked Questions — Kemppi X3 FastMig Water-Cooled System

Does the X3 FastMig water-cooled package include a separate cooler unit? No — and this is a key advantage. Water-cooled X3 FastMig power sources (W and WM models) have the cooling system integrated directly into the power source. There is no separate external cooler to purchase, connect, or transport. The W power source connects directly to the water-cooled torch hose pack — one unit, fully self-contained.

What is the difference between the X3 FastMig water-cooled and gas-cooled packages? The water-cooled package uses a built-in cooler to actively remove heat from the torch and cable throughout welding, enabling higher sustained output, longer torch consumable life, and improved operator comfort on long production runs. The gas-cooled package uses air cooling and is lighter (35 kg vs ~47 kg), simpler, and lower cost — suited to moderate-duty production, site work, and maintenance applications. Both deliver identical arc performance and welding programs.

What is the difference between the X3S and X3P water-cooled FastMig? The X3S (Synergic) supports Manual MIG, 1-MIG synergic welding, MMA, and gouging at up to 420 A. The X3P (Pulse) adds Pulse MIG/MAG at up to 450 A, making it the preferred choice for aluminium, stainless steel, and applications where pulse arc control reduces spatter and improves weld quality. Both are available in water-cooled W and WM configurations.

What interconnection cable lengths are available? X3 FastMig water-cooled packages are available with 5 m (standard workshop reach) or 10 m (extended reach for larger work areas, structural steel, and shipyard environments) interconnection cables. The 10 m configuration — as in the reference package PX3PG010 — is the preferred choice for applications where the power source and wire feeder need to be separated by greater distances.

What generator size is required for the X3 FastMig water-cooled package? Kemppi recommends a minimum generator output of 25 kVA for all X3 FastMig W and WM power source variants at full welding capacity.

Can the X3 FastMig water-cooled package be used with a marathon pack? Yes — when configured with the X3 HD300 wire feeder, the water-cooled X3 FastMig supports marathon pack bulk drum wire configurations for uninterrupted high-volume continuous welding production.

Is pulse MIG available on the water-cooled X3 FastMig? Yes — on X3P (Pulse) W and WM models. If pulse MIG is required for aluminium, stainless steel, or thin sheet welding, specify the X3P water-cooled variant when requesting your quotation. If synergic MIG is sufficient (structural steel, cored wire, high-deposition production), the X3S water-cooled variant is the correct and more cost-effective choice.

What is the warranty on the X3 FastMig water-cooled package? The X3 FastMig carries a standard 3-year parts and labour warranty from Kemppi.
