Kemppi Minarc Evo 180 ARC Welder

The Kemppi Minarc Evo 140 AU VRD is a 5.4 kg, 240V single-phase stick (MMA) welder that plugs into a standard Australian 10 amp outlet and delivers up to 140 A, with a built-in Voltage Reduction Device (VRD) for safer welding on mine sites, in confined spaces and in other hazardous environments. It also does Lift TIG, runs reliably off generators of 5.5 kVA and up, and handles electrodes from 1.5 to 3.25 mm. That makes it a strong fit for maintenance crews, contractors and service techs who need a professional-grade machine they can carry up a ladder or into the back of a ute.

Built for sites where VRD is non-negotiable

On many Australian mine sites and industrial plants, a welder without VRD isn't allowed through the gate. The Minarc Evo 140's integrated VRD drops open-circuit voltage to a low 12 V when you're not welding, and it has been tested to bring voltage below 35 V within 300 ms of the arc breaking. That cuts electric shock risk when you're changing rods, working in wet or cramped conditions, or welding in contact with conductive structures.

A VRD status light lets you see at a glance that protection is active. A fail-to-safe function stops the machine from carrying on as normal if the VRD develops a fault. The unit is built to AS/IEC 60974-1 and is suited to Category A, B and C environments. That's the paperwork site safety officers want to see before signing off on your gear.

Real portability, real performance

  • 10 A plug-in power: Runs off a normal 10 A GPO, so you don't need a 15 A outlet or a special lead to get welding.
  • Generator friendly: Stable arc from generators of 5.5 kVA and up, and it copes with long supply cables. Ideal for remote and off-grid jobs.
  • 5.4 kg and compact: Measures 361 × 139 × 267 mm and takes an optional shoulder strap, so it's easy to carry on scaffolds, through hatches and around plant.
  • Tough enough for site: IP23S rated and works from –20 °C to +40 °C.
  • Stick and Lift TIG: Smooth MMA arc ignition across 1.5–3.25 mm electrodes, plus Lift TIG up to 150 A with a valve TIG torch for neater work on thinner material.
  • Optional remote control: Add the Kemppi R10 remote to adjust current from where you're welding, instead of walking back to the machine.
  • Backed by Kemppi: Finnish-designed, with a 3-year parts and labour warranty.

Frequently asked questions

Can I plug the Kemppi Minarc Evo 140 into a normal power point?

Yes. The AU version is set up for a 10 A supply, so it runs off a standard Australian 240 V household or site power outlet without a 15 A adaptor.

What does VRD mean on a welder, and do I need it?

VRD stands for Voltage Reduction Device. It lowers the voltage at the electrode holder when you're not welding, which reduces the risk of electric shock. Many Australian mine sites, plants and contractors require VRD-equipped welders, particularly for confined spaces, wet conditions or work on conductive structures.

What size welding rods can the Minarc Evo 140 run?

It runs stick electrodes from 1.5 mm up to 3.25 mm, which covers the general-purpose 2.5 mm and 3.2 mm rods used for most maintenance and repair work.

Will the Minarc Evo 140 run off a generator?

Yes. Kemppi specifies a minimum generator size of 5.5 kVA, and the machine is designed to stay stable on generator power and long supply leads.

Can the Minarc Evo 140 TIG weld?

Yes. It supports Lift TIG (DC) up to 150 A. You'll need a valve TIG torch such as the Kemppi TX163GVD9, plus a regulator and shielding gas.

How heavy is the Kemppi Minarc Evo 140?

The machine weighs 5.4 kg without cables, making it one of the lightest professional VRD stick welders available.

What warranty does the Minarc Evo 140 come with?

Kemppi backs the Minarc Evo with a 3-year parts and labour warranty.
