CIGWELD COMET Flashback Arrestor Torch Mount Set (Oxygen & Fuel)
The CIGWELD COMET Flashback Arrestor Torch Mount Set is a matched pair of flashback arrestors, one for oxygen and one for fuel gas, that screw onto the inlets of an oxy-fuel cutting or welding torch. Each arrestor has a stainless steel flame arrestor and a non-return valve. Together they stop a flashback, backfire or sustained backfire from burning back through the hoses, and stop reverse-flowing gas from mixing in the hose and supply system. The set is compliant with AS 4603, ISO 5175-1 and UL 1357, and it suits standard-flow cutting, welding, brazing and heating work where very high gas flows aren’t needed.
Why Torch-Mounted Flashback Arrestors Matter
A flashback happens when mixed gas inside the torch ignites and burns back against the gas flow, into the hoses and towards the regulator and cylinder. It can travel faster than an operator can react. The result can be anything from sooted hoses to an equipment fire or explosion. If you hear a loud pop or bang from the torch, the flashback has already happened.
Arrestors fitted at the torch stop the flame and any reverse gas flow at the first point it can enter the system, before it reaches the hoses. For full system protection, use torch-mount arrestors together with regulator-mount arrestors at the cylinder end.
Compliance & Certification
- AS 4603: Meets the Australian Standard for flashback arrestors, which is often a requirement on contracts and sites that specify Australian Standards-compliant gas equipment.
- ISO 5175-1: Complies with the international standard for gas welding safety devices that include a flame (flashback) arrestor.
- UL 1357: Listed by UL to its maximum working pressure ratings (see specifications).
- 100% factory tested: Every unit is tested before it leaves the factory.
- Date-stamped body: The date of manufacture is stamped on each arrestor, so you can quickly check its age at inspections and know when it is due for replacement.
Key Features
2-point safety system: Each arrestor combines a sintered stainless steel flame arrestor, which extinguishes any returning flame, with a non-return valve that blocks reverse gas flow.
Matched oxygen and fuel pair: You get one oxygen arrestor and one fuel arrestor, each clearly identified, so they can’t be mixed up on the torch.
Brass housing with gas-tight O-ring seals: Built for daily use in workshops and on site.
Multi-gas fuel compatibility: The fuel-side arrestor is rated for acetylene, LPG (propane), methane and hydrogen.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does a torch-mounted flashback arrestor do?
It attaches to the gas inlets of an oxy-fuel torch. It stops a flashback flame and any reverse-flowing gas from passing back into the hoses, regulators and cylinders.
Do I need flashback arrestors on both the torch and the regulator?
For full protection, yes. Torch-mount arrestors stop a flashback where it starts. Regulator-mount arrestors protect the cylinder and regulator end of the system. CIGWELD’s COMET regulator-mount arrestors also include a thermal cut-off valve, which shuts off the gas if the arrestor overheats.
Are COMET flashback arrestors compliant with Australian Standards?
Yes. They comply with AS 4603 and ISO 5175-1, and they are UL 1357 listed.
Which gases can I use these arrestors with?
The oxygen arrestor is for oxygen only. The fuel arrestor is rated for acetylene, LPG/propane, methane and hydrogen, each within its own maximum working pressure.
When should flashback arrestors be replaced?
Replace them after any flashback, or if the unit is damaged or fails a check. You should also replace them at the interval recommended by the manufacturer or required by your site procedures. The date stamp on the body lets you track each unit’s age.
What’s the difference between this set and the Mid Flow set?
This set (208512) is the standard-flow torch-mount option for general cutting, welding and heating. The Mid Flow set (208518) is designed for higher gas flow, such as heavier cutting or larger heating tips.
