Why the Right Ferrule Size Matters
A ferrule isn't a generic consumable — it's matched to stud diameter. An oversized ferrule lets the arc wander and the pool spread, producing an undersized or irregular fillet; an undersized one restricts venting and traps gas in the weld. What does a ceramic ferrule do in stud welding?
It contains the electrical arc, shields the molten pool from the atmosphere, and moulds the displaced weld metal into a uniform fillet around the stud base. Without a ferrule, drawn arc welds suffer porosity, spatter and inconsistent fillet formation.
Can I reuse ceramic ferrules?
No — ferrules are single-use. The thermal shock of welding makes the ceramic brittle by design, so it releases cleanly. Attempting reuse produces contaminated, unreliable welds.
Do M6 ferrules fit other stud sizes?
