GULLCO 10B-20 PORTABLE WELDING ROD OVEN – 9KG WITH THERMOSTAT

Part No: 10B-20

The Gullco 10B-20 is a 9kg-capacity portable welding rod oven with built-in thermostat control, designed to keep low-hydrogen stick electrodes dry and conditioned at the point of work. Weighing just 7kg with a compact 178mm diameter x 584mm cylindrical body, it maintains electrodes in a 38°C to 149°C temperature range and runs on 115V or 220V AC — giving site welders, maintenance crews, and field service teams true hydrogen-controlled electrode storage wherever the job is.

Where in-shop stabilizing ovens hold bulk stock in the consumables store, the 10B-20 solves the last-metre problem: keeping electrodes at holding temperature between the storage oven and the arc. Lightweight, rugged, and easy to carry, it puts conditioned electrodes within arm's reach of the welder — reducing wasted walking time and eliminating the moisture pickup that happens when rods sit exposed at the workface.

Why a Portable Rod Oven Matters

Low-hydrogen electrodes (E7016, E7018, E8018 and similar) start absorbing atmospheric moisture the moment they leave the holding oven. On site work — structural steel erection, pipeline tie-ins, shutdown maintenance — electrodes can sit exposed for hours, reintroducing the diffusible hydrogen that causes hydrogen-induced cracking in high-strength welds. Many qualified welding procedures and site quality plans limit electrode exposure time for exactly this reason.

A portable rod oven at the point of work closes that gap. The 10B-20's thermostat maintains holding temperature continuously, so the electrode a welder pulls at 2pm is in the same condition as the one pulled at 7am — and the quality documentation holds up.

Key Features

Thermostat control — Maintains oven temperature anywhere in the 38°C to 149°C range, providing independent control of electrode condition at the workface. This is the key upgrade over the fixed-temperature 10A-20 model.

Genuinely portable — At approximately 7kg unloaded and 178mm in diameter, the 10B-20 carries in one hand up stairs, onto scaffolds, and across site. Rugged construction is built for daily field handling.

Rod lifter — Built-in lifter raises electrodes toward the opening, so welders can grab a rod quickly without reaching into a hot chamber.

Full-length electrode capacity — The 483mm-deep chamber accepts electrodes up to 457mm, covering standard 350mm and 450mm stick electrode sizes.

Pilot light — At-a-glance confirmation that the oven is powered and heating.

Lift-lid closure — Simple top-opening lid for fast access with gloved hands.

Dual voltage operation — Runs on 115V or 220V AC with a generous 2428mm line cord, so it plugs in at the workface, in the site shed, or in the service vehicle.

10B-20 vs 10A-20: What's the Difference?

Gullco's 20lb portable rod ovens come in two versions. The 10A-20 operates at a factory-set temperature, while the 10B-20 adds an adjustable thermostat — letting you match the holding temperature to your electrode manufacturer's specification and your welding procedure requirements. For work governed by qualified procedures or site quality plans, the thermostat-equipped 10B-20 is the one to specify.

Best suited to Point-of-work holding on site and in the field Small workshops and maintenance departments Multi-welder workshops with high throughput

The three formats work together: bulk stock conditioned in an In-Shop oven, with 10B-20s issued to welders for point-of-work holding. Note the portable's 149°C ceiling suits holding duties — higher-temperature re-conditioning is a job for the in-shop models.

Who Is the Gullco 10B-20 For?

  • Site welders and structural steel erectors working to AS/NZS 1554 hydrogen-control requirements away from the workshop
  • Pipeline, shutdown and maintenance crews in mining, oil and gas, and heavy industry where electrode exposure time is limited by procedure
  • Field service technicians carrying welding capability in the vehicle
  • Workshops issuing per-welder ovens so conditioned electrodes stay within reach at every bay

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Gullco 10B-20 and 10A-20? The 10B-20 has an adjustable thermostat covering 38°C to 149°C; the 10A-20 runs at a factory-set temperature. If your welding procedure or electrode datasheet specifies a holding temperature, choose the 10B-20.

Can the 10B-20 re-condition (re-bake) electrodes that have been exposed? No — re-conditioning typically requires temperatures well above the 10B-20's 149°C maximum. Use an in-shop stabilizing oven for re-baking, then transfer electrodes to the 10B-20 for holding at the workface.

What length of electrode fits in the 10B-20? The chamber accepts electrodes up to 457mm, covering standard 350mm and 450mm stick electrode sizes.

How heavy is the 10B-20 to carry? The oven itself weighs approximately 7kg, plus up to 9kg of electrodes — a comfortable one-hand carry for site work.

Does the 10B-20 run on standard Australian power? The oven operates on 115V or 220V AC. Contact our team to confirm the correct configuration for your site supply.
