Product Overview

The KATBAK Ceramic Backing Bar 1" Triangular is a purpose-engineered ceramic weld backing tile designed to support and shape the root pass on butt and groove welds. Its triangular profile creates full-face contact with the joint rather than the single-point contact typical of round backing tiles, giving welders superior support against burn-through and more consistent, defect-free back beads.

Mounted on a wide, heat-resistant, pressure-sensitive adhesive foil, the backing bar adheres firmly to the reverse side of the weld joint. As the weld progresses, molten slag and weld pool are contained within the recessed channel of the ceramic tile, protecting and precisely shaping the external bead from beneath — eliminating the need for back gouging or grinding.
